August 2025 Windows 11 24H2 Non-Security Preview Update

 Microsoft released KB5064081 (OS Build 26100.5074) for Windows 11 24H2. 

Highlights for the Windows 11, version 24H2 update: 

• Recall* opens to a personalized homepage that puts your recent activity and top-used apps and websites front and center, making it easy to pick up where you left off. After turning on snapshot collection, the homepage highlights key productivity features like Recent Snapshots, which show the latest snapshots to help you quickly resume tasks, and Top Apps and Websites, which display the three apps and websites you’ve used most in the past 24 hours.
• When you launch Click to Do* for the first time, you'll see a quick, interactive tutorial. It shows how to complete tasks faster by demonstrating actions on both text and images—such as summarizing large blocks of text or removing image backgrounds.
• When an app requests access to location, camera, microphone, or other device capabilities, Windows shows a redesigned system dialog box. To emphasize the privacy prompt, the screen dims slightly, and the prompt appears at the center of the screen.
• When you use Search from the Windows taskbar, a new grid view will help you more quickly and accurately identify the desired image within your search.
• More widget options and support for lock screen widget personalization (previously referred to as “Weather and more”) are rolling out.

Mozilla Firefox Version 142.0.1 Released with Updates

  Mozilla sent Firefox Version 142.0.1 to the Release Channel.

Fixed

• Dragging multiple non-adjacent tabs in horizontal tab strip mode now correctly moves them together as a group. (Bug 1982933)

• Dragging multiple tabs no longer causes toolbar unresponsiveness or visual glitches. (Bug 198434)

• Fixed an issue where the text cursor appeared in the wrong location. (Bug 1984045)

• Fixed a crash related to gamepad use, particularly on macOS. (Bug 1870379)

• Fixed an issue where the expand on hover feature in the sidebar would sometimes stop working. (Bug 1982129)

• Fixed a crash in KDE Plasma when using certain custom window decorations. (Bug 1984823)

Adobe is releasing an optional hotfix patch for Acrobat and Acrobat Reader that addresses some important bug fixes.

August 2025 Windows 10 Non-Security Preview Update

Microsoft released KB5063842 for Windows 10 version 22H2 optional non-security release preview (Windows monthly updates explained).

Note:  The September non-security preview update will be the final non-security preview update for Windows 10 2262.

Key Issues Addressed

• [Common Controls] Fixed: An issue that affects how certain supplementary characters appear in Windows textboxes.
• [Input and Composition] Fixed: An issue with the Chinese Simplified Input Method Editor (IME). Some extended characters were shown as empty boxes.
• [Licensing] New! This update adds a new feature that allows customers using the Windows 10 keyless Commercial ESU solution—alongside a Windows 365 subscription—to block outbound network traffic. This enhancement supports compliance with Zero Exhaust policies.
• [Mobile Operator Profiles] Updated: Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA) profiles.
• [Multimedia] Fixed: An issue where mf.dll failed to enumerate redirected web camera devices on Remote Desktop Services (RDS) environments.
• [Windows Hello] Fixed: An issue in which Narrator reads the incorrect name for the "Enhance Facial Recognition Protection" check box under the Facial Recognition setting.
• [Search pane] Fixed: An issue that might cause the Windows Search pane to not show the preview pane correctly.
• [Family Safety] Fixed: An issue where the "Ask to Use" approval flow was not being triggered for blocked apps. With this fix, the approval flow now appears as expected when a blocked app is accessed.
• [Portable Devices] Fixed: An issue where the Removeable Storage Access policy may not work properly.

Pale Moon Version 33.8.2 Released with Security Updates

 Pale Moon has been updated to version 33.8.2.  This is a minor development, security and bugfix update.

Changes/fixes:

• Changed the way the address bar focus is handled when navigating to a fragment (#hash or anchor) within an existing URL. It will now re-focus the page the same way a normal address navigation would (resetting the "editing" state, unless the user is actively typing).
• Implemented support for the :focus-visible CSS pseudo-class.
• Fixed a potential race condition in font tables. DiD
• Fixed potential issues with pthread allocations. DiD
• Fixed an issue in NSS related to the PKCS12 decoder.
• Security issues addressed: CVE-2025-9181 and several others that do not have a CVE number.

Notes:  *DiD This means that a fix is "Defense-in-Depth": It is a fix that does not apply to a (potentially) actively exploitable vulnerability in Pale Moon, but prevents future vulnerabilities caused by the same code, e.g. when surrounding code changes, exposing the problem, or when new attack vectors are discovered.

Mozilla Firefox Version 142.0 Released with Security Updates

 

Mozilla sent Firefox Version 142.0 to the release channel.  Firefox ESR has been updated to Version 128.14.0 with security fixes.

The update includes eighteen security updates of which five (5) are rated critical, one (1) rated moderate, and three (3) are rated low. The security updates can be reviewed here.

Microsoft August 2025 Security Updates

 

The Microsoft August 2025 security updates have been released and consist of 107 new CVEs to Microsoft products. 

Of the Microsoft CVEs released, 12 are rated Critical, 1 is rated Moderate, 1 is rated Low, and the rest are rated Important in severity. At the time of release, one is listed as being publicly known and none are listed as under active attack.

The security updates apply to the following products, features and roles: Windows and Windows Components, Office and Office Components, Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based), Azure, GitHub Copilot, Dynamics 365, SQL Server, and Hyper-V Serve.
