Upgrade to Windows and Microsoft Update Services Begins

The Microsoft Update Product Team Blog posted an update today that the previously announced upgrade to the Windows Update and Microsoft Update services started today, although it will take several months to complete.

Unless Windows Update (or Automatic Updates) is disabled, regardless of your settings, the upgrade will be downloaded and installed automatically.
