Making sense of Microsoft malware protection

Not long ago, I posted Understanding Microsoft Updates and had thought to follow-up with a post on the available Microsoft malware protection software. In the interim, I discovered that fellow MVP Mark Burnett has done just that, providing

"a breakdown of Microsoft’s client protection offerings in an attempt to help you understand what might be best for you"

Most of the offerings are free. Particularly if you are not familiar with the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool or the Microsoft OneCare Safety Scanner, I encourage you to read Mark's post, Making sense of Microsoft malware protection.
